Nylon inserts are generally acceptable for working pressures up to 150 psi at normal room temperatures. At very low pressures, temperatures can approach 175º F with no degradation of the insert's strength. Nylon inserts should not be used with acid-based fertilizers, bromine, chlorine, fluorine, hydrochloric acid, iodine, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid or xylene. Nylon should not be used with compressed gas. Parts are white.Polypropylene inserts should not be used with aromatic hydrocarbons, carbon tetra-chloride, gasoline, hexane, kerosene, nitric acid, sodium hydrochlorite, toluene, trichlorethylene or xylene. Polypropylene should not be used with compressed gas. Parts are black.Kynar polyvinylidene fluoride is a tough engineering thermoplastic that offers a unique balance of properties. It has the characteristic stability of fluoropolymers when exposed to harsh thermal, chemical and ultraviolet environments. Parts are tan.
The purpose of the Boss Coupling and Clamp System is to supply a convenient threaded fitting needed to connect two lengths of hose, or a single length to a male or female threaded (NPT) outlet on any type of equipment. The spud part of the coupling serves as one half of the connection and is usually fixed permanently to the equipment. The stem and nut attached (clamped) to the hose is the other half. The two halves are connected by rotating the wing nut on the spud, to achieve a mechanical as well as a pressure seal.
The Boss Coupling and Clamp System is designed as an all purpose system, universally recommended for steam connections. They are also widely used with equal efficiency for high or low pressure air, water, liquid petroleum gas, fluid petroleum products, chemicals, potable fluids and almost any other type of fluid or gas. (Consult Columbia Rubber & Gasket for specific media capabilities.) They can be applied to all types of rubber, synthetic, plastic, metallic (with special stems) or semi-metallic hose.
